The Slovaks entered the play-off game with a desire for historical success. The game against the paper favourites was to decide about everything. The Quarterfinal stage was really close, but the match ended in Slovak disappointment. When considering the progress of the game, the result was really unlucky for them.

Poland confirmed their role of paper favourites and in defeated Denmark by 7:4 in their play-off game. Despite the Poles went quickly into a two-goal lead, Denmark managed to respond fast and kept up with their opponents until the last period, in which Poland decided definitively about their victory. In the Quarterfinals Poland will meet the Czech Republic.

In the first play-off game, group D winners from Germany played against Russia, who finished last in group A. And if any of the spectators left their seat for even just 45 seconds, they missed the most important part. The happy German winners will face Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

Many posts regarding the match between the Czech Republic and Latvia appeared on social media with the #WFC2013 hashtag. The Czech team thrashed Latvia 12:1 a finished on the second position in group B. The Czechs went into a quick lead with 56 seconds into the game thanks to Denisa Billá, who converted a penalty shot for playing in the goalkeeper area. The home team launched their scoring surge in the first period and scored seven goals into the Latvian net. The Czech players controlled the game in the remaining two periods as well and could thus enjoy the excellent atmosphere in the arena.
